Sanju Samson affirms that he is available for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, but Kerala has not decided whether to include him.

Sanju Samson stated that he is available to return to the Kerala team for the final four Group E matches in Hyderabad; however, the KCA has not yet decided whether to recruit him back into the team.

Following the conclusion of the team’s second-round encounter on Thursday, India wicketkeeper Sanju Samson has acknowledged that he is available to play in the remaining games of the Vijay Hazare Trophy event, but the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has not yet made a decision about his inclusion.

It was unexpected to learn that Samson, who captained Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 competition earlier this month, was left out of Kerala’s 50-overs domestic championship team. Samson was left off of the 15-member team, according to the KCA last week, since he did not show up for a preparation camp that was conducted in Wayanad from December 13 to 17.

Sanju had informed us via email that he would not be able to attend the program. Without him, the squad spent a brief time in camp in Wayanad. Naturally, the only people we took into consideration for selection were those that participated in the sessions. On December 18, KCA secretary Vinod S. Kumar told The Indian Express, “There has been no further discussion with him on the matter.”

Samson has reportedly stated that he is available to return to the Kerala team this week for the final four Group E matches in Hyderabad. The KCA hasn’t decided whether to pick him back into the squad yet, though.

Over the past two days, Sanju has informed us that he is available for selection. We have not yet made a decision about his inclusion. Only two games have been played, and the entire contingent is already in Hyderabad,” Kumar told The Indian Express on Thursday. Kumar said that it is doubtful that Sachin Baby would be included because the senior batter has not fully recovered from an injury he suffered during the SMAT season.

In their first match, Kerala lost to Baroda by 62 runs after giving up a huge 403-run total. Kerala’s batting meltdown on Thursday saw them pack for 160 before Madhya Pradesh dropped to 99 for five in the rain-soaked run chase.

In his past five Twenty20 International matches for India, Samson hammered three hundreds against Bangladesh and South Africa. Samson played his final 50-over match while representing India in December 2023 while on tour in South Africa. India won by 78 runs thanks to Samson’s first century, an undefeated 108, in the series finale. Samson holds a career-best 212* in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and is Kerala’s third-highest run scorer (1,895) in List A cricket.
