Apple plans to invest $500 billion in the United States and create 20,000 jobs at a new AI server factory in Texas.

The news comes after former President Donald Trump claimed that Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, had promised him that the business would move its manufacturing from Mexico to the United States in order to avoid tariffs. Trump’s constant threats to impose tariffs on goods made in China have put pressure on tech companies and may have an effect on the cost of producing iPhones.

“We are bullish on the future of American innovation, and we’re proud to build on our long-standing U.S. investments with this $500 billion commitment to our country’s future,” Cook said in a statement, reinforcing Apple’s commitment to American innovation.

The planned server factory in Houston, which will produce servers enabling Apple Intelligence, the company’s newest AI-powered features, is a major highlight of Apple’s investment. According to Apple, new facility will boost its AI infrastructure and create “thousands of jobs.”

This action brings to mind Apple’s 2018 statement, made during Trump’s first term, in which the corporation promised to invest $350 billion in the United States and create 20,000 new jobs. Trump had also contemplated tariffs at the time that might have affected iPhone prices, but those plans were never carried out.

Apple is increasing its AI skills and strengthening its position in the U.S. with this most recent investment, all the while negotiating changing trade regulations.
